Former President Bill Clinton Descends on Miami for the Weekend
It was a big Bill Clinton weekend here in Miami. He started out his Friday night with a showing at LIV at the Fontainebleau, where, as Lesley Abravanel reports, all security measures were taken to ensure that a good (and wholesome) time was had by all. What better way to wrap up an early eve at the Miami Beach luxury resort than with some of the divine treats that come courtesy of Scarpetta’s own Scott Conant? But it wasn’t all about the parties, private dinners, and luxury venues for the former president; Clinton put his star power to work in the Magic City, hosting his third annual Clinton Global Initiative University, the national conference that brings together 1,300 students, and 100 college presidents, youth organizations, and A-list celebrities.
For the 2010 edition, the University of Miami played host for the weekend affair, and welcomed Hurricane student-athletes, along with pros from the Miami Dolphins and Miami Heat. After a Friday night on the beach, Clinton took in a different side of South Florida for the Sunday community-service project at the Homestead Homeless Complex. With Alonzo Mourning and Dolphins players Patrick Cobbs, Greg Camarillo, and Lousaka Polite, Clinton and crew installed finishing landscaping touches throughout the property.
And while his work here in the Magic City made headlines all weekend long, he was quick to move on to his next project, earning morning news spotlight this a.m. when he went on the Today Show, to be interviewed by former President George W. Bush’s daughter, Jenna Bush Hager, where he commented on the emotional impact that accompanies something like preparing to give away his daughter Chelsea’s hand in marriage.
