Former Lehman Brothers President Auctioning Antiques from Long Island Mansion
Former Lehman Brothers President, Joseph Gregory, is auctioning off a collection of antique furniture and artwork from his Long Island mansion. Some of the items listed for auction by Sotheby’s include two chests of drawers constructed in the 1700s, estimated to be worth up to $400,000, and a painting by the Dutch artist Bartholomeus Assteyn entitled “A Still Life of Grapes, Cherries, Peaches and Other Fruit in a Basket, with a Rose and a Dragonfly on a Stone Ledge,” estimated to sell for $80,000.
“After many wonderful years designing, decorating and collecting for the house, the Gregorys are moving to a new chapter of their lives, with new projects and a focus on their own charitable organization,” the auction house wrote in its catalog, adding that the sale would feature important English furniture from some of the most notable cabinet makers, along with European porcelain and decorations.
Gregory and his wife, Niki, sold their Long Island property last June for $17.5 million. The various items up for sale will be on display at the York Avenue galleries beginning on October 18, with the auction set to take place on October 24.
