Choreographer Norbert De La Cruz III Debuts Piece for Aspen Santa Fe Ballet

News | July 5, 2013

Emerging choreographers find a nurturing home in the Aspen Santa Fe Ballet’s program, and Norbert De La Cruz’s return proves it. The 23-year-old choreographer debuted “Square None” last year in Aspen, and a whirlwind year of a acclaim and awards followed. Tomorrow, he’s premiering another piece, called “Fold by Fold,” specifically choreographed for the ASFB troupe.

The local company will perform “Fold by Fold” on Saturday as part of a program of mixed repertoire that also features another premiere — “Beautiful Mistake,” by Cayetano Soto, who has a long association with Aspen Santa Fe Ballet — plus the return of Trey McIntyre’s popular “Like a Samba.” (The program will be repeated in Aspen in performances on July 18 and 20.)

The New York Times has said “This small and ambitious company commissions pieces from little known dance makers and helps those artists develop. This is noble and necessary work.”

The performance takes place at the District Theatre and starts at 8 p.m. Tickets start at $25. For more information, visit aspenshowtix.com.
