Haute 100 NY Update: Marc Jacobs Turns Graffiti into Glamour
Marc Jacobs responded to graffiti vandalism on his Paris storefront in the way he knows best: fashion. A couple of days ago, graffiti artist Kidult spray painted ‘$686’ with a neon green tint on the designer’s Parisian shop, the second round of a battle between the artistic rivals. In 2011, the French graffiti artist started the shenanigans in SoHo when he sprayed ‘ART’ in bright pink on the boutique’s façade. Turning paint into profit, Jacobs cleverly responded with a launch of $686 pink t-shirts that showcased Kidult’s ‘art,’ along with a statement saying “Art By Art Jacob$.”
Jacobs took the same approach this time, tweeting ‘Come by Paris Collection for the opening night installation of the new @therealkidult. We proudly support the arts.’ and selling his sassy shirts. Kidult’s couture crusade has also attacked Céline, Agnès B, Christian Louboutin, Hermès and Yves Saint Laurent.
