London: Shaka Zulu Champagne & Oyster Bar

While we don’t usually recommend 27,000-square-foot venues in East London, sometimes we just can’t help ourselves. This week sees the launch of the opulent South African restaurant-cum-nightclub Shaka Zulu’s new champagne and oyster bar. More than a restaurant, it is a destination, and one that would seem more at home in South Beach than London.

The space is incredible with hand-carved wooden floor-to-ceiling murals (including a two-story, 3D elephant that would impress even the biggest cynics) and massive Zulu warrior statues, a nice touch if we do say so ourselves. The zebra-patterned marble bartops and African-inspired design touches at every turn give this space a little something extra—less gimmicky and more luxurious than you would expect, despite the name.

The extensive champagne menu includes well-known names like Laurent Perrier, Bollinger, Dom Perignon and Veuve Clicquot as well as fashionistas’ favorite Laurent-Perrier’s Ultra Brut (the lowest sugar champagne around). They also have added an innovative selection of delicious oyster-infused cocktails for the adventurous and diners can expect only the finest (and might we say largest) Fine de Claire Oysters from the South of France.
