Double A Announces Double Joust

Double A at Mercadito (108 W. Kinzie St.) will up the ante for the second installment of the bartender Bar Joust competition with the announcement of the Double Joust. The rules are the same, but now the stakes are higher. Launching on Sunday, July 14, twenty teams of bartending buddies will compete to attract the largest crowd at Double A to benefit Yhim, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to funding cancer research, and vie for a chance at the grand prize of $5,000. Interested parties must enter the Double Joust here by Friday, June 28.

Each week, two teams of two will face off at the register to bring in the highest sales. At the end of the night, the team with the highest register total will win the round and take home 10% of the total night’s sales. In addition, Yhim will also receive 10% of the night’s sales.

“The Bar Joust was not only a way to engage the industry community, but our guests got involved in the excitement as well,” says Mercadito managing partner Alfredo Sandoval. “With the Double Joust, we are encouraging bartenders to pair up with co-workers or industry friends to compete so I expect double the fun this time around. The best part is the entire competition benefits a great cause.”

The original Bar Joust competition last fall for a $4,000 prize included participants such as: mixology master Adam Seger, A.J. Connors from the Grid, Carlos Cuarta from High Proof Chicago, Kenneth Griggs from Union Sushi, Seth Feldman from Bar Deville, Alexandre Rothlisberger from Barn & Company, and more.
