Madrona Manor Celebrated the Roaring Twenties at Great Gatsby Soiree
In a nod to its rich history and to celebrate the reprise of the classic American tale, Madrona Manor invited guests to travel back in time to The Jazz Age at its first ever Great Gatsby Soiree.
Madrona Manor hosted the film’s release with a ’20s-style lawn party replete with Gatsby-inspired food and drink, accompanied by swinging live music for guests to dance their best version of the Shimmy, Charleston or Black Bottom.
While film buffs and culture hounds alike eagerly awaited the release of Baz Luhrmann‘s version of The Great Gatsby (which opened May 10), they reveled at the elegant Madrona Victorian mansion, which has played host to more than a few such parties.
At his parties, Gatsby served spiced baked hams crowded against salads of harlequin designs and pastry pigs and turkeys bewitched to a dark gold. In turn, Executive Chef Jesse Mallgren created a gorgeous menu inspired by passages from the book, which included crispy local oyster wrapped in spiced ham and a suckling pig “pork pie.” Meanwhile, mixologist Pam Bushling served up vintage cocktails such as Gin Rickey (Gatsby’s favorite) and Mint Juleps.
Guests also enjoyed the Turnaround Jazz Quartet, which played jazz from the era as guests danced, played parlour games and sat on Madrona Manor’s beautiful lawn.
