Deborah Turness, the former chief of Britain’s ITV News, has signed on to serve as the new president of NBC News. The 46-year-old journalist will be the first woman to ever oversee a US television network’s news division.

“It is quite simply the greatest imaginable honor to be named as the next president of NBC News,” she said in a statement. “I am hugely excited by the opportunities that lie ahead and look forward to working with the talented journalists and technicians who make it one of the great global news operations.”

Turness will be replacing Steve Capus, who resigned as the network’s head of news last winter.
