Luxury jeweler Harry Winston purchased a pear-shaped colorless diamond for $26.7 million at an auction on Wednesday. The 101.73 carat “Winston Legacy” diamond, the centerpiece of the Magnificent Jewels auction, is the largest diamond ever sold at auction to date.

“Harry Winston acquired the most perfect diamond ever offered for sale at auction,” Rahul Kadakia, head of Jewelry for Christie’s Switzerland and Americas, told Reuters. “World record prices were set for diamonds, pearls and sapphires, thereby firmly establishing the international appetite for the most beautiful gems and jewels.”
