Alfred Hitchcock’s House Hits Market for $1.4 Million
Talk about a haunted house! The four-bedroom, four-bath Colonial home where Alfred Hitchcock wrote the 1963 classic “The Birds” has been listed for $1.4 million, reports the New York Daily News. Located in Pound Ridge, Westchester County, the home is currently owned by Jim Hart, who wrote the script for Bram Stoker’s “Dracula” and “Contact.”
Hart only recently learned that “The Birds” was written in the barn where he has worked most days since buying the property in 1994. “The odd thing is I write with a famous photograph of Hitchcock over my shoulder for inspiration,” he revealed. “Lots of coincidences like that occurred. One day, out of nowhere, hundreds of birds landed in the surrounding trees.”
And it seems the two-bedroom barn also has a rather storied past. It was moved piece by piece from Napa Valley, Calif., during the Depression and housed a world-renowned antique collection. The main home features wood-beamed vaulted ceilings, a gunite pool, several fireplaces, round breakfast nooks and wood and iron detailing.
“The barn lights up in the morning when the sun hits it,” added Hart. “You see deer, woodchucks and wild turkeys. It’s a perfect place to write.”
