Cadaver Film Screening at The Museum of Contemporary Art
Cadaver is an award-winning animated short film (long-listed for a 2013 Academy Award) that turned into a graphic novel for adults. And I know what you’re thinking, you may be only half right though. The short film is about a cadaver, but it’s much more than that. It’s a bittersweet love story about a cadaver that wakes up to say one last goodbye to his wife, but learns more in death than in he did in life. I would tell you more but I wouldn’t want to ruin it for you, because you’re definitely going to the screening of the film at the Museum of Contemporary Art (220 East Chicago Ave) on April 23rd at 6PM, right?
The movie was written and directed by Jonah Ansell, starring the voice of Tavi Gevinson (both pictured above). But this short film has some definite star power, with Back to the Future’s Christopher Lloyd and Academy Award Winner Kathy Bates lending their immense talents to the project. Ansell and Gevinson are longtime friends and Oak Park Natives, and they both will be on hand to discuss their work on the short film. They will also detail how an animated short film turned into a graphic novel. You usually hear about short films turning into movies or novels turning into films, but rarely, if ever, do you hear about a short film turning into a novel so this should be interesting.
