Rafael Nadal Withdraws From 2013 Sony Open Tennis Tournament
Acclaimed Spanish tennis player Rafael Nadal has decided to withdraw from the upcoming Sony Open Tennis Tournament after the recent defeat of fellow player Juan Martin del Potro in three sets yesterday. “I’m very sorry for the organization of the tournament, and I’m very sorry for the fans, but we never thought we’d be able to play all matches possible since I came back,” said Nadal, who is currently ranked No. 4. Nadal has been asked by doctors to rest because of a knee injury.
After this weekend’s matches, Nadal has now won approximately 600 matches and has broken a tie with Roger Federer for the most ATP Tour Masters. He had recently taken seven months off from the sport because of his left knee injury. When he returned this past February, he had won 14 straight matches and had a career-best of 17-1. ”That makes an emotional week for me,” he said. ”Very important victory for me; winning against the best players of the world on a surface that is good for them.”
