I’m a serious fan of the Cooking Channel and Food Network. What’s very prevalent on those channels are shows where dishes are put up against one another and a guest judge or one of the chefs decide the winner. If you’re anything like me and have always wanted to be the person to decide which one is best, now’s your chance. 312 Chicago (136 North Lasalle) will be holding a “Battle of the Dishes” on March 26th at 6:30 PM.
“Battle of the Dishes” will be a four-course Italian dinner with wine pairings, it will have two antipasti, two primi, two secondi and two dolci going head to head for a permanent spot on the restaurant’s Spring menu. You don’t have to be scared of any of them being disgusting or prepared by an amateur, each dish will be created by Executive Chef Luca Corazzina himself and accompanied by a glass of wine. The dishes are sure to be great, your challenge will be deciding which is the most great.
You will have to decide your favorite for each course and the winning dishes will all be placed on the menu. Just to give you a hint of what to expect I can let you in on one of the battles. Contending dishes for the coveted secondi spot include Ivoltino di Manzo (Beef tenderloin Rolls stuffed with Spinach and Scamorza) versus Spalla di Maiale (Roasted Pork Shoulder with fried polenta and black truffle sauce. Just think, that’s only one of the four courses! And in addition to Chef Corazzina introducing each delectable dish, Italian Wine Specialist, Gino Catalano of Kobrand Fine Wine & Spirits, will be on hand to discuss each wine pairing. Tickets for the battle are $60 pp ($85 w/ wine pairing). To register, call 312-696-2420 or visit www.312chicago.com. Just remember to bring your appetite.
