Porschla Kidd: Fashion Forward

Back in January, I attended the 2013 YMA Fashion Fund Scholarship Dinner at the Waldorf Astoria, and it got me really looking forward to this year’s New York Fashion Week! Everyone at that dinner was so excited about the world of fashion and design, and it was inspirational being around such chic minds…and clothes! I went with Jason, and had such a fabulous time catching up with New York’s hottest designers and up-and-comers—there really is so much talent out there, and Fashion Week was just the time to celebrate that.
As anyone can probably tell, February in New York is one of my favorite times of the year, not because of the brisk weather, but because of all the glitz and glam that happens in Lincoln Center. I love to kick off the season with American designers showcasing their newest fall collections, giving fashionistas like myself a sneak peek at what we will be wearing later on in the year. To my excitement, this season I was invited to many different shows over the span of the week, but I had to narrow it down to some select few. After all, being a mom is more of a time consuming job than one may think!
Rebecca Minkoff’s Fall 2013 fashion show was nothing short of futuristic. The collection included elements inspired by spacesuits with sleek hair done by Fashion Week sponsor TRESemmé. One of my favorite pieces looked like an image captured by an outer space satellite, taken of earth. For the most part the line consisted of dark muted colors with a few bright pieces. Her lemon yellow dress and bright red dress were a huge hit. Rebecca Minkoff is one of my favorite designers. I love her urban chic design aesthetic with feminine sex appeal, and the right amount of toughness.
Charlotte Ronson’s Fall 2013 presentation was superb! To me, she just “gets it.” Keeping with her young hip vibe, Charlotte’s fall collection is trendy, fun, and cool. I loved her flow with leather and lace. I got the feel her line was inspired by “mod fashions” with tartan prints and skirts and tops fit for an English high tea. The model’s hair also fit the occasion with a side part and comb over reminiscent of the fabulous Twiggy!
Cynthia Rowley’s Fall 2013 collection was likened to a sugar coated “day of the dead.” The models dark makeup, bed hair, and blank stare set the mood. I’m a fan of the collections dark colors with hints of pastels lurking in all the right places. Her fall line is exactly what I would pull from to wear, if I were attending a Tim Burton’s carnival. Sweet to death perfection!
