On February 4, Mario Batali, Joe Bastianich and Nancy Silverton will unleash their new Italian restaurant Chi Spacca in the former Scuola di Pizza location, a new stand-alone restaurant based on the success of Scuola’s salumi nights.

According to Zagat and LA Eater, Scuola’s chef de cuisine Chad Colby’s monthly salumi nights and “whole-hog dinners” were so successful that partners Batali, Bastianich and Silverton are making the jump from occasion salumi nights to a stand alone eatery open every night for “casual groups of diners”, Colby told LA Eater.

Salumi nights included an a la carte menu of assorted salumi, sausages, pates, terrines, pickles and breads, all made in-house, according to Zagat. Colby, who won Cochon 555 in Los Angeles in 2011, prepared everything in the space’s open kitchen.

The Italian dining trio behind Chi Spacca are responsible for some of the most popular Italian restaurants in Los Angeles, including Pizzeria Mozza, Osteria Mozza and Mozza 2Go.

Rumored to be opening on February 4, Chi Spacca means “cleaver” in Italian.
