Haute Scene : The Met Opening Night

News | October 26, 2012

The Metropolitan Opera’s opening gala on September 24 at Lincoln Center was perhaps the social highlight of the season. The evening revolved around a performance of the comic opera L’elisir d’amore by Italian composer Gaetano Donizetti starring soprano Anna Netrebko and tenor Matthew Polenzani as mismatched lovers.

The eclectic gathering of megawatt stars and society fixtures in the audience included Diane von Furstenberg, Bianca Jagger, Courtney Love, Oscar de la Renta, Martha Stewart and Rob Thomas. After the final curtain, cast and special guests enjoyed dinner under a tent in Damrosch Park.
