New York Power Breakfast Institution To Try Out New Location
The breakfast room at the Loews Regency Hotel is moving two blocks on up the East Side.
When news broke that the “breakfast room” at the Loews Regency Hotel on the Upper East Side would close for renovations on January 1st, it startled members of the uptown media and political elite who regular broke their fasts with $24 omelets at Jonathan Tisch’s VIP canteen.
But very old regulars like Shimon Peres, Larry King and Barbara Boxter needn’t worry: Tisch is making a movable feast of the morning institution and marching it two blocks up Park Avenue to…Park Avenue, a restaurant whose name and decor change with the seasons (i.e. it’s currently called Park Avenue Autumn). Patrick McGeehan of the Times notes that the restaurant has received solid critical notices. But the Loews’ discerning crowd might be less interested in the food than their sight lines into other power tables. Just ask Al Sharpton, who’s willing to settle into the temporary address so long as he holds sway over a prime corner table.
