Nanci Pelosi, House Democratic Leader, was honored by the California Historical Society at the 2012 Annual Recognition Gala.  The fancy affair took place at the California Historical Society headquarters in San Francisco earlier this month, and was emceed by Cheryl Jennings (Emmy award winning anchor at ABC7/KGO).

The “Legends of California” award celebrates individuals who have made significant contributions to the advancement of California’s reputation.  Pelosi is most certainly deserving of such a high honor.

Since her election in 1987, she has represented California’s 8th District in the House of Representatives, and made history in 2002 when House Democrats elected her as the first woman to lead a major party in Congress.  In 2007, she became the first female speaker of the House.  She currently serves as Democratic Leader of the U.S. House of Representatives.

Guests of the gala included Pelosi’s friends and colleagues – California U.S. Representatives Mike Thompson and George Miller; State Senators Mark Leno and Leland Yee; State Assembly Member Fiona Ma; former US Executive Director and U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Ann M. Veneman; former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown; and Captain Chesley Sullenberger.
