Nordstrom has finally found a home in Manhattan. The Seattle-based department store signed documents this week with Extell Development to open a full-scale store in New York City. The 7-story store will be located on the north side of 57th street, east of Broadway. This location will cost Nordstrom a pretty penny; the venue is priced at over $300 million. For the past 20 years Nordstrom has been exploring New York City for the perfect place. Unfortunately the company will have to wait a few more years to move in since Extell expects that the building won’t be completed until 2018.
In 1887, founder John W. Nordstrom left Sweden at the age of 16 in hopes of earning a living in New York. Although his journey brought him to the Pacific Northwest, his dream of opening up a store in the Big Apple is becoming a reality. Nordstrom began as a shoe store in downtown Seattle and has transformed into a nationwide fashion enterprise. Although the company has grown tremendously it still maintains the philosophy developed over 100 years ago by its late founder, “offer the customer the best possible service, selection, quality and value.”
