Larger than Life Pop Art at Andaz 5th Avenue
Since not every painting can have the staying power of the Maxfield Parrish mural at the St. Regis King Cole Bar, the Andaz 5th Avenue mixes things up with a rotating artist in residence program. Last week artist John Hung Ha completed his mural on the doors to The Bar Downstairs at Andaz 5th Avenue, as the part of the hotel’s tbd Art series.
While working on the mural the artists truly are “in residence” living in a suite at the hotel so they are free to work whenever the inspiration strikes. John is the fourth artist to have his work displayed since the hotel opened in spring 2010, and it will be on view until February of next year.
“My colorful pop art is larger than life and inspires good energy. I feel the same can be said of New York City – a bustling, vibrant metropolis with a mix of so many cultures,” says John Hung Ha. “Andaz 5th Avenue has inspired me to create a canvas that combines these elements, and I am looking forward to this experience.”
Stop by the hotel at 485 5th Avenue (at 41st St) to see his modern interpretation of traditional Chinese imagery uses international flags to populate the scales of an enormous Koi fish, representing the melting pot population of New York, and makes a great and fitting finale to the series.
