May 4 at Christies New York will see the sale of one of the largest and most valued private collections of Modern Art in the world. The unparalleled collection of Mrs. Sidney F. Brody is expected to exceed $150 million at auction, and includes works by Picasso, Matisse, Giacometti, Georges Braque, Edouard Vuillard, Marino Marini, and Henry Moore.
Edward Dolman, CEO of Christie’s International, spoke about the Brody family’s collection with reverence: “This is quite simply one of the most sophisticated collections of Modern Art in existence today. The significance of these works to the global community cannot be over-stated.”
There are three stunning pieces in particular creating the most buzz: Pablo Picasso’s “Nude, Green Leaves, and Bust” painted in March 1932 (estimate upon request), Henri Matisse’s “Nu au coussin bleu” 1924, (estimate: $20-30 million), and Alberto Giacometti’s “Grande tête de Diego”, 1954 (estimate: $25-35 million).
There’s no better investment than great art—let the bidding begin!
