Celebrities, Charity, and Golf at The Biltmore

As it proved last weekend, The Biltmore Hotel is good for more than just relaxing by a pool that comes complete with sculptures and a waterfall, enjoying a game of tennis on one of its many clay courts, or even taking advantage of the myriad spa services designed to pamper its lucky guests. On Super Bowl weekend, the legendary Coral Gables hotel confirmed with panache that charity is where it’s at when it played host to multi-platinum recording artist (and former Newlywed) Nick Lachey and four-time reigning NASCAR Sprint Cup Champion Jimmie Johnson’s “3rd Annual Super Skins Weekend.” The celebrity-fueled charity golf match successfully raised an incredible $300,000 that went to 20 charities all over America, including the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund, Muscular Dystrophy Association, Jimmie Johnson Foundation, and Nick Lachey Foundation. Johnson and Lachey described themselves as “blown away” by the support for the event, welcome reception, and sincere effort shown by the volunteers. Driving the effort was a LOT of star power, with athletes and celebrities alike teeing off for the cause they believe is the hautest. Participants included Joey Fatone, Drew Lachey, Creed drummer Scott Phillips, NFL great and Fox Sports Net analyst Jason Sehorn, Cincinnati Bengals’ Dhani Jones, LPGA golfer Cristie Kerr, 2010 NFL Hall of Famer Jerry Rice, New York Jets’ Jay Feely, World Series of Poker Champion Greg Raymer, Miami Dolphins’ Jason Taylor, ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit, former MLB pitching great Jeff Fassero, MLB All-Star Jamie Moyer, Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ Will Allen, NFL quarterback and Super Bowl champion Chris Redman, quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons Matt Ryan, former Miami Dolphin Rob Konrad, NFL receiving great Tim Brown, Pro Football Hall of Famer Marcus Allen and two-time Pro Bowler Darryl Talley. Don’t think it was all work and no play for these famous faces, however. The weekend’s charitable activities were ushered in with a fabulous pre-party Thursday evening at The Eden Roc, where guests were treated to a special performance by Snoop Dogg—no word on whether or not Nick Lachey entertained the crowd with a few old 98 degrees classics!
