“Literacy Matters” is a campaign launched by the Crockett Foundation to eradicate illiteracy among middle school students and decrease the drop out rate in South Florida by providing motivated youth with educational resources that they otherwise might not be able to afford. Through a partnership with the Huntington Learning Center of Coral Springs, Literacy Matters’ first initiative will provide 50 motivated students from Ramblewood Middle School with a full year of free one-on-one training from a Huntington Learning Center-certified teacher in their individual areas of need. The North Broward Chapter of The Links, Incorporated is assisting with the selection of students to receive the tutoring sessions. Crockett Foundation plans to expand this program to other middle schools throughout South Florida.
Community Foundation of Broward provided a $20,000 grant to the Crockett Foundation toward this program and Huntington Learning Center of Coral Springs has agreed to cut costs in half. Crockett Foundation is holding the Fundraising Reception & Silent Auction to raise the remaining $15,000 needed to make this program completely free for all 50 students. Raffle tickets will be sold and silent auction items will be available for bid. Those who purchase a $100 raffle ticket will be eligible to win an Audi A4 courtesy of Audi of Coral Springs.
