Satsuma successfully hits the spot
Wander along Wardour Street and chances are you’ll stumble across Satsuma – the Royal China Group’s recently relaunched Japanese restaurant.
Inside it seems that the future is very much orange: the communal Wagamama style benches have been replaced by futuristic satsuma coloured pods.
Our group was divided by the décor (much like marmite, you’ll either love it or hate it), but while opinion was split over the surroundings, everyone went mad over the mouth-watering new menu.
The new look Satsuma specialises in katsu curry dishes (there are over 14 types to choose from, all served with sticky rice, soba or udon noodles) but Haute Living loves the miso aubergine (a vegetarian’s dream) and Ebi (prawn) offerings, as well as the delicious deep fried varieties.
Not craving a curry? Sashimi, sushi maki rolls, tempura, miso and more are all present and correct.
The great thing about this place is that the food lends itself to socialising. We collected quite a hoard of choices to poke our chopsticks at. Wash it down with an excellent sake, beer, bottle of wine or the freshest of juices, before finishing with the green tea or black and white sesame ice cream – you’ll hate yourself as you lap it up like a kitten.
