China'’s Shenzhen Lily Choir

The Dicapo Opera Theatre hosted a cultural exchange program and private concert for invited guests on Wednesday at the Dicapo’s 250 seat theater on East 76th Street. China’s Shenzhen Lily Choir performed at The Kennedy Center on September 12th and then flew to NYC to perform with The Dicapo Opera Childrens Chorus.

The Lily Choir was formed in 1997 as a cultural exchange program supported by the municipal government and has toured, recorded several albums and won numerous awards internationally. The Lily Choir is comprised of female students with remarkable voices from the Shenzhen senior high school. The Dicapo Opera Childrens Chorus is directed by Artistic Director, Diane Martindale and has also toured internationally. The mix of talented students was a wonderful exchange of voices, language and culture.

The Dicapo Childrens Chorus will be performing in Tosca which opens the 30th Anniversay or the Dicapo Opera Theatre.  In October 1981, Dicapo, Executive Director, Michael Capasso produced his first production of Tosca. Now, to celebrate Dicapo’s 30th season, Mr. Capasso applies his imagination and intimate knowledge of the Puccini idiom to a new production of this tale of fervent love, duplicity, and tragic death.
