New York Fashion Week: 3.1 Phillip Lim Shows Pastel Sportswear

News | September 18, 2011

Designer Phillip Lim’s Spring 2012 collection breathed fresh air into a graphics and technicolor New York Fashion Week. Inspired by Lim’s own coming of age and aimed at the young sophisticate, the collection showed a range of sorbet separates reminiscent of nineties Helmut Lang and Jil Sander, a welcomed homage.

Lim’s reference? The kite, with tops and dresses sewn from rectangular panels with loose, fluttering edges. Silk trousers with track-pant vents and wide leg culottes cut like basketball shorts added a subtle, cheeky touch to the sportswear line.

During the season of the lady, Phillip Lim manages to lean towards the downtown darling with much applause.

Angi Wingle of CND Nails designed coordinating “Rain Coat” manicures to match see-through jackets on the runway. The designer wanted the manicure shade to mirror the flesh tone underneath the nailplate, so CND custom-blended a nail stain using drops of CND Colour in Raspberry Parfait and Guava mixed with Speedey Top Coat.
