Castro District Welcomes New Trader Joe’s

News | January 13, 2010

The lease has been finalized for Trader Joe’s to move into a 13,000-square-foot location in the Castro District of San Francisco.

The new shop will be taking over the space that was left vacant for three years after Tower Records moved out, beating out other prospective tenants such as Staples and Office Depot. It’s reported that some shops had walked away from the deal amidst concerns that “they would face community opposition through San Francisco’s Proposition G formula retail ordinance.”

The new center will feature 39 parking spots on its roof and should be open for business in approximately one year.
