“The Lasting Power of Clive Davis” in the New Issue of Haute Living Los Angeles
We gave you the heads up over the weekend, and now that happy day has finally arrived. The first West Coast editions of 2010 of Haute Living magazine are now available online.
In the Los Angeles cover story, Haute Living CEO Kamal Hotchandani sat down with arguably one of the greatest music industry moguls of all times, Clive Davis, and just in time for the Grammy Awards on Jan. 31. As Editorial Director Stephanie Wilson tells us, “Since the late 1960s, he has been hand-selecting the greatest musical stars of this era from amidst the millions of aspiring wannabes. He personally launched the careers of megawatt stars like Whitney Houston, Janis Joplin, Alicia Keys, Bruce Springsteen, Aerosmith, Carlos Santana, Chicago, Barry Manilow, and Patti Smith, among others. Being chosen by Clive Davis all but ensures greatness and industry domination…”
The cover story takes the readers on a personal trip through the last five decades, through Davis’ eyes, as he talks about growing up in Brooklyn, attending Harvard Law School on scholarship, and his first taste of the music industry as general counsel for Columbia Records. Insider information from Davis details events such as offering advice on a young Bob Dylan and attending the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967 to discover the soulful sounds of Janis Jopline and others. “My life-changing moment came when I went to the festival thinking I was just going to enjoy Simon & Garfunkel and the Mamas & the Papas.
