Save the Date: Brooklyn Museum Announces Plans for VIP Annual Gala

News | March 25, 2011

The Brooklyn Museum’s yearly gala, “The Brooklyn Artists Ball,” is often regarded as a must-attend for the city’s society set. This year, with the support of honorary co-chair Sarah Jessica Parker and trustee/chair Stephanie Ingrassia (doyenne of the Brooklyn art world), the museum has announced an ambitious reinvention of the illustrious événement.

This season, the ball, which commences on Wednesday evening, April 27, 2011, at the museum, will focus on toasting the creativity and talents of influential Brooklyn artists. Museum director, Arnold Lehman, states: “It is incredibly exciting for the Museum to enlarge in yet another way its already major engagement with the community of artists living and working in Brooklyn. The new direction of the Ball signifies the Museum’s enormous commitment to those artists, past and present, who are a cornerstone of the institution.”

Brooklyn artists such as mixed-media creator Fred Wilson, painter Fred Tomaselli, and photographer Lorna Simpson, will be honored, as will Brooklyn Museum chair, Norman M. Feinberg, who retires this year.

Sarah Jessica Parker will kick off the Brooklyn Artists Ball at 6 p.m., hosting an elegant VIP cocktail reception in the museum’s Great Hall. Guests will enjoy posh sips in the midst of an innovative, site-specific architectural installation created by Brooklyn-based, Situ Studio, titled reOrder: An Architectural Environment. Situo Studio, a design and fabrication firm describes the installation as re-imagining “the classically ordered space, transforming the scale of the hall with stretched fabric canopies and integrated furnishings that swell, expand, and augment the profile of the existing monumental columns.” Another visual kick at the Great Hall cocktail will be Brooklyn video artist and designer Sean Capone’s large-scale video projections.

After plenty of Champagne has been consumed, a masterful seated dinner will take place in the Museum’s splendid Beaux-Art Court. Unique table ornamentation designed by Brooklyn-based artists including Aleksander Duravcevic, Valerie Hegarty, Ryan Humphrey, Bo Joseph, Jason Miller, Angel Otero, Duke Riley, Heather Rowe, Shinique Smith, Brian Tolle, Vadis Turner, Sara VanDerBeek, Anya Kielar, and Dustin Yellin, will create what is sure to be an enchanting décor.

Tickets to the Brooklyn Artists Ball are available from $500 to $1,500 USD, with tables range from $5,000 t0 $50,000 . All proceeds from the charitable gala will benefit the Museum’s exhibition, education and outreach programs.
