New York Fashion Week: Pamella Roland Brings Asian-Inspired Luxury to New York’s Runways for Fall 2011
On Feb. 14, acclaimed designer Pamella Roland delivered her signature luxurious style on the runway at The Studio at Lincoln Center. For Fall 2011, Roland drew inspiration from her travels to the Far East, reflecting Roland’s love for travel, luxury, and quality. Since her debut in 2002, and especially since her induction into the Council of Fashion Designers of America in 2010, Roland has created quite the following for herself, including much of Hollywood’s elite with fans such as Angelina Jolie, Hilary Swank, Jennifer Garner, Halle Berry, Eva Longoria and Carrie Underwood.
The show displayed a style that masterfully embraced traditional elements of Eastern design. Roland explains, “Having lived in Asia, I was inspired by the culminating of old with new, western technologies with eastern tradition, modern cityscapes with rural farmland and the colors of field harvests and urban skylines.”
The result? Dazzling pieces that incorporated such Asian-inspired elements as soft cocoon-shaped silhouettes, sinuous draping, and a palette of neutrals and rich jewel-tone hues, amongst others. The collection positively dripped with moody elegance, luxury, femininity, and power, making it a modern collection for women who have a grasp on subtle elegance and the value of fine craftsmanship. Featured in the collection was daywear in scenic jacquards, rich cashmere knits, and camel and anthracite neutrals accented by pops of crimson. The cocktail dresses and evening gowns boasted grand, full-skirted shapes, sweeping trains, and elegant jewel-tones such as jade, crimson, red plum, and classic black.
With jewelry by Chopard and footwear by Manolo Blahnik, the show absolutely enchanted its glamorous guests including Brittany Snow, Anika Noni-Rose, Nigel Barker, Kelly Choi, Celerie Kemble, Emma Snowdon-Jones, Alexandra Lebanthal, Genevieve Jones, Jennifer Creel, Stephanie Winston Wolkoff, June Ambrose, Robert Verdi, and J Alexander.
