New York Fashion Week: Mara Hoffman Fall 2011 Presentation
Taking inspiration from her husband’s (artist Javier Piñón) last body of work entitled O Babalon, New York based designer Mara Hoffman’s Fall 2011 Ready-to-Wear Collection featured juxtaposing elements of spiritual being and warrior goddess.
The looks were stunning, but it was the make-up and hair that played the role as accessories, and unintentionally set the first impression. Make-up artist Lottie for Make Up For Ever was the creative mind behind the mystical look. She used thick, kohl eyeliner around the eyes and accented the eyebrows, making them look rich and thick (like seen on Audrey Hepburn). She professionally bronzed the skin and completed the look with neutral lips.
Hairstylist Martin Anthony Harper for Cutler (the salon brings runway looks to the streets), made sure two of the biggest hair trends from spring was here to stay. He added tousled braids that brought out the natural essence and femininity of the collection and aptly complimented the make-up. Braids were a hit during Spring 2011 Paris Fashion Week at the Valentino, Alexander McQueen, YSL, and Emanuel Ungaro runway shows. Harper also used turbans to complete the ethnic effect which resonated from the patterns. Turbans are the latest trend since Jason Wu, Vena Cava, and Giorgio Armani featured them during their Spring 2011 shows.
The collection also featured very feminine details that helped make the collection appear as one cohesive line. Long flowing gowns as well as chunky knits with bold colors, prints and dramatic styling. Details such as tassles, braiding and embroidery accented the pieces.
