The 8 Best Cocktail Bars in the West Village Right Now

The best cocktail bars in the West Village, from Sip & Guzzle, North America’s No. 1 bar, to Employees Only, to newcomer Dandelion.

Dandelion

There are plenty of reasons to fall in love with the West Village. Its cocktail bars might be the most persuasive. Within a few winding blocks you can slip downstairs at Sip & Guzzle, crowned the No. 1 bar in North America this year, for an exquisitely considered Japanese cocktail; claim a seat at Angel’s Share or Employees Only, both ranked on North America’s 50 Best Bars 2026; settle into a Negroni at Bar Pisellino; or catch the newest buzz at Dandelion on Christopher Street. Somewhere along the way, one of these rooms will become the best party in Manhattan.

The pleasure is in the variety. Some evenings call for a martini and someone worth lingering over; others need a little noise, a little spontaneity, and a bartender who knows exactly where to take things next. These are the West Village cocktail bars that deserve a place in your rotation.

Sip at Sip & Guzzle

Sip & Guzzle

29 Cornelia Street

Sip & Guzzle was named No. 1 on North America’s 50 Best Bars 2026 and ranks No. 14 on The World’s 50 Best Bars, and two very different evenings live at its Cornelia Street address. Upstairs, Guzzle channels the sociability of a great New York bar; downstairs, Sip takes a more intimate, Japanese approach to the cocktail. Together, Shingo Gokan, who received the Roku Industry Icon Award at this year’s World’s 50 Best Bars, and Steve Schneider have built a destination that lets you choose your own pace.

For the full occasion, make Sip the priority: ambitious drinks, polished service and a setting that asks for your attention. Guzzle is the answer when you want the same formidable pedigree with a more casual energy. You could easily plan an entire night around the building.

Haute Living take: Sip is walk-in only, so put your name down early for an evening devoted to cocktails; start upstairs at Guzzle when you want something livelier and more spontaneous.

Angel’s Share

45 Grove Street

Angel’s Share began in the East Village in 1993 and moved to Grove Street in 2023, where it ranks No. 31 on North America’s 50 Best Bars 2026. The Japanese institution helped set New York’s standard for precise, considered drinks, and it understands the intimacy of a truly great cocktail bar better than almost anyone.

House rules preserve the mood: everyone is seated, groups are limited to four, and admission is walk-in only. There is something deeply appealing about a bar that makes room for conversation. Bring someone whose company you enjoy, allow time for the wait, and let the menu pull you beyond your habitual order.

Haute Living take: Ask the bartender to build you something around your preferred spirit and flavor profile; the pleasure is in how precisely they interpret it.

Dante West Village

551 Hudson Street

Dante West Village, which opened in 2020 as the sister to the Dante named the World’s Best Bar in 2019, makes a strong argument for putting aperitivo on the calendar. At the corner of Hudson and Perry, it pairs its martini and aperitivo program with seafood and cooking centered on a wood-fired grill and charcoal oven.

That combination gives it unusual flexibility. Come for a pre-dinner drink, arrange an unhurried date, or let cocktails become a full meal without changing addresses. The draw is the complete evening: a handsome neighborhood setting, an appetite-stirring drink and the option of staying exactly where you are.

Haute Living take: Make this your martini stop, particularly when dinner is part of the plan.

Dandelion

115 Christopher Street

Dandelion opened in December 2025 from Eytan Sugarman and Will Makris, the team behind Zero Bond and White Horse Tavern, giving Christopher Street an intimate cocktail lounge with a menu willing to have some fun. (Haute Living got the first look.) There are familiar starting points, including martinis, tropical drinks and spirit-forward combinations, but plenty of personality in the details.

The Never on a Sunday takes the savory route with tomato-and-herb vodka, olive brine, vermouth and feta. Blondie on Christopher combines coconut-oil-washed mezcal, rum, Suze, blanc vermouth and pineapple gomme. And when the evening calls for something indulgent alongside, potato rösti with deviled egg and ossetra caviar makes a persuasive companion.

Haute Living take: Never on a Sunday for adventurous martini drinkers; Blondie on Christopher for a more tropical direction.

Employees Only

510 Hudson Street

Employees Only ranks No. 45 on North America’s 50 Best Bars 2026, and there is a particular kind of New York night it does exceptionally well. It starts beneath the psychic sign on Hudson Street, continues with a proper cocktail and has a habit of running considerably later than anticipated.

The room has the confidence of an institution that knows how to show people a good time, and the menu gives you plenty of reasons to return. The Billionaire combines bourbon, lemon, house grenadine and absinthe bitters, while the Manhattan adds Grand Marnier to whiskey, Italian vermouth and Angostura. Both suit a bar where familiar pleasures arrive with a little extra flourish.

Haute Living take: Start with the Billionaire, then see where the night takes you.

Little Branch

20 Seventh Avenue South

Little Branch, opened in 2007 by the late cocktail pioneer Sasha Petraske of Milk & Honey fame, is one of the neighborhood’s defining cocktail destinations. A discreet entrance and a staircase lead to a basement hideaway with a reputation built on carefully executed drinks and live jazz on select nights.

It’s an especially appealing choice when your ideal evening involves a classic cocktail and enough time to appreciate it. The setting suits a date, a quiet catch-up or that rare night when nobody is rushing to the next reservation. A seat here can feel like permission to stay awhile.

Haute Living take: Ask for a bartender’s choice built around your favorite spirit, or return to a classic you already love.

Katana Kitten

531 Hudson Street

Masahiro Urushido opened Katana Kitten on Hudson Street in 2018, and his Japanese-American bar brings a welcome exuberance to serious cocktail making. Highballs, imaginative signatures and Japanese-accented comfort food share the spotlight, which makes it very easy for one drink to become an evening.

Start with the Hinoki Martini, the house signature of vodka, gin, fino sherry, junmai daiginjo sake and hinoki tree essence. For something longer and brighter, the Toki Highball takes the elegant route with Japanese whisky and lemon oil, while the Shiso Gin & Tonic brings an herbal lift. Add nori fries and settle into the room’s infectious energy.

Bar Pisellino

52 Grove Street

Bar Pisellino is the Italian all-day bar from Rita Sodi and Jody Williams, the pair behind I Sodi and Via Carota, who have a gift for creating places people want to make part of their lives. It moves from espresso and pastries in the morning to cocktails, small bites and digestivi at night.

The curved marble bar, walnut counter and sidewalk tables make the corner especially inviting. Arrive while there is still daylight, order something suited to aperitivo and watch the neighborhood pass by. For all the appeal of a hidden drinking den, there is equal pleasure in a beautiful bar that opens itself to the street.

Haute Living take: A Negroni and a little time before dinner.
