Over 10,000 Party for Charity at the 34th Annual Margarita Ball
Like Christmas and Thanksgiving, the Margarita Ball comes once a year. Saturday’s turnout was the largest ever, garnering over 10,000 attendees in the name of Dallas Children’s Charities. Since everything is bigger in Texas, it’s no wonder this event represents the world’s largest black tie gala, growing in number every year. The Sheraton Hotel downtown hosted the 34th annual party, a sort of prom night for the young professionals and philanthropic heavyweights of Dallas, who don dresses, tuxes and ties to dance and drink the night away.
An invitation-only event, the Margarita Ball has its magistrates who delegate which attendees are to join in the fun. This includes directors, directors emeritus and members of the Dallas Margarita Society and the society’s sponsors. All invitees, however, either brought an unwrapped toy for children, or donated $25 to the Children’s Charities of Dallas.
This year, the Wonders and the Klocks performed in the Lone Star Ballroom, while in the Dallas Ballroom DJ Alex Vega mixed things up. Poker lovers and gambling novices tried their luck in the full casino, and artist Kat Gardner wowed guests with her live painting exhibit in the Dallas Grand Hall, a gorgeous work of art that was later auctioned off. Other auction items included luxury travel and hotel packages, jewelry, furs, sports tickets and more. Last year, nearly $1 million was raised from the event, and this year’s tallies look like they may eclipse that total.
