The Chanel 2024/25 Métiers D’art Collection Is A Dreamlike Journey from Paris To Hangzhou
In a mesmerizing union of history and modernity, Chanel unveiled its 2024/25 Métiers d’art collection at the ethereal West Lake in Hangzhou. Another stunning show, this dreamlike presentation transcended time and place, drawing inspiration from antique Coromandel screens—a profound love of Gabrielle Chanel—and the poetic allure of one of China’s most storied locations.

The collection embodies a seamless blend of Gabrielle Chanel’s stylistic universe and the unparalleled craftsmanship of the Chanel Maisons d’art, housed at le19M. Every detail is infused with storytelling and heritage, celebrating the intimate and the grand. The Coromandel screens, cherished by Mademoiselle Chanel, served as a muse for this collection. One particularly captivating screen, depicting scenes of everyday life in Hangzhou against the backdrop of West Lake, tied the collection’s narrative to its unveiling location.

Chanel enhanced the magnificence of their collection by collaborating with renowned director Wim Wenders, who created a cinematic masterpiece featuring House ambassadors Tilda Swinton, Leah Dou, and Xin Zhilei. Their performances elevated the artistry and dreamlike quality of the event, transforming it into both a film journey and a fashion show.

This season’s collection reimagines Gabrielle Chanel’s iconic designs, blending timeless silhouettes with innovative craftsmanship and meticulous detailing. Outerwear pieces, such as long, shouldered coats in tweed, satin, and velvet, feature delicate floral embroidery, while duffle coats and silk-lined jackets exude mystery and sophistication. Refined daywear includes straight-cut, belted jackets and tuxedo designs paired with voluminous pleated skirts, wrap skirts, and cropped trousers, achieving effortless elegance. Travel-inspired accessories, from chic travel bags to knitwear adorned with Coromandel screen motifs, celebrate the Maison’s love of exploration. Eveningwear enchants with romantic pleats, ruffles, and gold lace, capturing Gabrielle Chanel’s timeless allure in negligees, pyjamas, and ethereal long dresses that transport wearers to a dreamlike realm.

The collection’s color palette reflects the Coromandel screens: jade green, pink, and sky blue capture their lacquer brilliance, while darker tones like black and brown evoke the screens’ wooden elements. Faded blue jeans mimic the ripples of West Lake, grounding the collection in its setting.

Chanel’s Maisons d’art showcased unparalleled craftsmanship in every detail of the collection. Footwear ranged from thigh-high patent boots to mid-calf styles inspired by Gabrielle Chanel’s preferred designs, each a stunning testament to design and intricate embroidery. Jewelry by Goossens included medallions and cuffs influenced by ancient Chinese artifacts, while cloud-shaped pearl necklaces and pillow handbags added a dreamlike softness to the ensemble. Maison Michel’s hats and scarves completed the looks, enhancing the poetic allure and elevating each silhouette into a work of art.
