Lorne Greenberg And The Soho Hotel: Toronto’s Hospitality Scene
The hospitality industry in Toronto has been experiencing a remarkable rebound after a long period of pandemic-related closures and restrictions. Prior to the pandemic, Toronto was considered a premier vacation destination for its diverse cultural offerings. Toronto is home to many prestigious Michelin-starred restaurants such as the renowned two-starred Sushi Masaki Saito, the one-starred Alobar Yorkville, and coming soon, the celebrity favorite Nobu restaurant. Further, Toronto has multiple world-class museums and art galleries like the Royal Ontario Museum and the Art Gallery of Ontario. However, by far the most popular attraction bringing in nearly half a million visitors to the city yearly is the Toronto Film Festival.
The Soho Hotel is at the forefront of innovation, creating a boutique hotel that is both luxurious and welcoming. The Soho Hotel is a luxury boutique hotel located in the heart of downtown Toronto, with easy access to theaters, shopping, and fine dining. In 2023, the hotel will be expanding its luxury offerings and ambiance once again. Lorne Greenberg, President of the Management Company that operates the Soho Hotel, is helping lead these initiatives. Specifically, Greenberg and the Soho Hotel team plan to renovate the lobby and other common spaces with the help of award-winning designer Michael London.
“Michael London is known for designing some of Toronto’s most luxurious condominium projects. We could not be more excited to work with him on his foray into the hotel and hospitality space.”
The Toronto-based designer is known for his unique design philosophy, combining elegance and comfort to create luxurious and livable spaces. His designs often feature an abundance of natural light, clean lines, and high-end finishes all of which are carefully selected to enhance the overall ambiance of a space. With over 20 years of experience in the industry, London has worked on a variety of projects ranging from large-scale luxury condominium developments to custom single-family homes. His work has earned him several accolades, including the Best Suite Design award at the BILD Awards and the Best Condominium Suite Design award at the ARIDO Awards.
The ground level of the Soho Hotel is home to the incredible Moretti restaurant and Moretti Caffé. Moretti, an old-world Italian spot with a modern twist, is one of Toronto’s ‘restaurants of the moment.’ The restaurant offers a unique culinary experience that combines classic Italian dishes with contemporary touches. Some standout dishes include wood-fired pizzas, homemade pasta, and seafood options. The burrata appetizer and arancini are also highly recommended. The atmosphere is fun and lively, with a mix of classic and modern decor. On top of that, the hotel was able to take advantage of the city’s “Cafeto” program allowing them to expand their outdoor seating for the restaurant. The outdoor area allows the restaurant to expand into the street thus creating a more vibrant and welcoming atmosphere for locals and tourists alike. Additionally, the Moretti Caffé is a cute and convenient cafe serving freshly brewed coffee and delicious pastries for guests and residents on the go or in need of a break. With the success of Moretti, Greenberg and the Soho Hotel team are looking to expand their F&B operations and are searching for a second world-renowned international restaurant to bring to Toronto.
These wonderfully executed plans come on the heels of the Soho Hotel’s “multi-million-dollar renovation” which has seen an upgrade to their saltwater pool, a steam room, an outdoor terrace on the second floor, and lastly a state-of-the-art gym designed and managed by two-time heavyweight champion Dalton Brown. The hotel has also introduced a branded app that allows guests to check in, order room service, and make special requests via direct message. These new amenities and services complement the hotel’s other unique features such as the incredible three-story presidential penthouse boasting two separate one-bedroom suites, a huge rooftop terrace, and a hot tub.
Building on the momentum of two years worth of renovations and expansions, the Soho Hotel is poised to take advantage of Toronto’s revived tourism scene in 2023.
