Derek Jeter is known as one of the greatest professional baseball players of all time for his iconic career with the New York Yankees. However, now Jeter is creating a new legacy off the field, serving as the Miami Marlins CEO. In honor of this milestone in Jeter’s life as he enters his second season leading the front office, Haute Living dedicated its Miami April cover to the legend, and celebrated the launch with an intimate dinner at the newly-opened Mr. C Coconut Grove. Perrier-Jouët Champagne, the incredible One Thousand Museum Residences and luxury scenting brand Aroma360 all joined in on the occasion to pay tribute to Jeter.

In Haute Living‘s exclusive cover story with the Marlins CEO, he shared the challenges of his new career and his plans to revitalize the baseball team by listening to the fans of Miami. “It’s important for me and for the Marlins organization to develop trust—to gain the trust that some things take time and don’t happen overnight. They may not even happen in a year or two years. But everything we say, and every promise we make, we intend to meet,” he asserted.

“We promised that we were going to listen to the fans and make their experience better,” Jeter added. “We’re delivering on that right now. I hope that the more we deliver over time, the more trust we will gain from our fans. Because that’s most important to us.”

Jeter certainly does have a way with the fans, as the humble and ever-gracious CEO made his way through the affair shaking everyone’s hands with a smile on his face. Guests enjoyed sips of Perrier-Jouët Belle Époque Champagne and Mr. C’s signature Bellinis to start, as well as decadent canapés like crab croquettes, bruschetta and lamb chops.

Before dessert, Haute Living CEO Kamal Hotchandani took the stage to make a toast to the cover star. “I’ve waited a decade for this cover—and ten years ago, that was Derek Jeter, the athlete. Now, he’s evolved into so much more—an entrepreneur, a philanthropist and most importantly, a family man. So it’s a true honor to be here tonight with our wonderful partners Louis Birdman of One Thousand Museum, Farah Abassi of Aroma360 and Perrier-Jouët. I want us all to raise our glasses in your honor,” he said as guests echoed with a round of applause and clinking glasses.

“Thank you to everyone for supporting us as an organization and giving us the platform to tell our story. We are building something special here that the community of Miami can be proud of. And the only way we’ll have success is through the continued support of our fans, so thank you to everyone and we are honored as an organization to be here celebrating tonight.”
