Although Tory Burch’s new Union Square flagship opened late last month, it debuted quietly with no big splashy opening affair and little fan fair. Until yesterday. San Francisco’s social swans became acquainted with the exquisite new boutique thanks to a shopping event hosted by three local beauties, Katie Traina, Sobia Shaikh, and Meghan Harris.

The event was a fundraiser for Compass Family Services, a local nonprofit that helps homeless families secure long-term housing. Traina and Harris are both on the board of Compass, an organization that’s been around for over 100 years. Yesterday, they invited friends and fellow Compass supporters to join them at Tory Burch for a look at her latest collection.

Guest mingled trying on chic stripped blazers, golden coin sandals, and tropical bird-printed pants while taking in the ivy-lined walls of the new shop. Taste catering served a passed appetizer lunch that included delicious mini bites of smoked salmon crackers and croque monsieurs while the sparkling wine flowed.

After a loud clinking of glasses, PR maven Allison Speer gave a quick speech. “Hi, everyone, I’m Ali Speer, and I want to welcome you to the new gorgeous Tory Burch Union Square boutique,” Speer said. “I think it’s stunning. I want to introduce you to the store director Jacqueline Chen, who is wonderful. If you have any questions or want to find something, she’s your lady, and she can introduce you to her staff. I want to thank our lovely hostesses Katie Traina, Meghan Harris, and Sobia Shaikh, the co-chairs of the Compass Family Services April 3 gala, cheers!”

Harris talked next saying, “Hi ladies, thank you so much for taking time out of your day to come to this beautiful Tory Burch store and thank you, Tory Burch, for making this happen. Today, 20% of everything you purchase goes back to Compass so buy your mother’s day presents and get your spring break outfits, it’s all for a good cause. Thank you for showing up today and for supporting Compass.”

Guests were treated to a spring floral arrangement. The team from Flowers Claire Marie had set out buckets of yellow ranunculus, peach garden roses, white anemones, and blush tulips. Shoppers selected the flowers they loved, and the experts put them together in pretty take-home arrangements.
Tickets are currently on sale for Compass’ upcoming spring benefit which takes place on Wednesday, April 3 at the Ferry Building. The event will commemorate the organization’s 105 birthday with cocktails and a sit-down dinner.
