A Final Farewell To Karl Lagerfeld: Chanel Fall-Winter 2019/20 Ready-To-Wear Show For Paris Fashion Week
Paris’ Grand Palais was transformed into a stunning winter wonderland to showcase Karl Lagerfeld’s last collection for CHANEL, which was co-designed with Virginie Viard. The peaceful setting was beautifully decorated with snow-topped chalets and trees, the show opening with one minute of silence to pay respect to the fashion genius, before CHANEL ambassador Cara Delevingne showcased the opening look, followed by her supermodel counterpart Kaia Gerber, among others.
The collection narrated a story, featuring characters wearing clothes with both masculine and feminine elements, and a color palette of winter white, neutral beige, black, navy blue and pops of accent colors like fuchsia and emerald green. Shapes and textures like houndstooth, tartan, checks, chevrons, quilts, leathers, crystals and tweeds made appearances, as did dramatic capes, wide-cut trousers and romantic dresses. Coats and skiwear were paired with urban shapes, while accessories like knitted scarves, sautoir necklaces and pearl earrings stood out against bare skin. The “snow-ball” skirts and dresses were eye-catching, boasting chiffon and feathers, providing a contemporary look and a whimsical feel. One was particularly eye-catching, worn by CHANEL ambassador Penélope Cruz, who later took to her Instagram account to revel in the glory of walking in Karl Lagerfeld’s last collection. A slew of bags hit the runway, including camera cases, hip bags, and the iconic Gabrielle bag in multiple finishes.
In attendance were several of the CHANEL ambassadors, including Kristen Stewart, Ellie Bamber, Anna Mouglalis, Nana Komatsu, Ann Hsu, Alma Jodorowsky, Marine Vacth, Gwei Lun-Mei, Victoria Song, Jennie Kim, Caroline de Maigret, Liu Wen, Marion Cotillard, Céline Sallette, Virgine Ledoyen, Monica Bellucci, Claudia Schiffer, Naomi Campbell, Janelle Monae, Eddy de Pretto and Sebastien Tellier.
