David Beckham’s Miami MLS Stadium Scores Approval In Elections

Soccer legend David Beckham is feeling victorious after the major win in the Miami elections that approved his Major League Soccer team stadium in Miami. The massive stadium will transform a city-owned golf course neighboring the Miami International Airport into a new commercial complex, entitled Miami Freedom Park, where the 25,000-seat stadium will reside in addition to hotel rooms, retail and commercial spaces. The plan will also include a 58-acre public park neighboring the mega-complex.
Beckham and partners Jorge and Jose Mas celebrated the win with celebrity artist Alexander Mijares, who designed the 5,000 square-foot mural in Brickell timed with the soccer team’s logo reveal with a special dinner in Coral Gables. At the dinner, Beckham toasted the crowd in excitement for the soccer stadium’s arrival in Miami, revitalizing the city’s infrastructure and bringing forth a new culture of sports.
The Miami soccer team will join the MLS in 2020, becoming the 25th team in the league, followed by Nashville, which will also be joining behind Miami as the 26th. Prior to the election in July, three Miami commissioners voted in favor of a referendum to be held in November while two commissioners voted against the notion. Election Day finally sealed the deal for Beckham and his partners, to much excitement.
Beckham’s move to the states was an attempt to help popularize soccer in America, and it’s looking like all is going according to plan for the British-born soccer superstar—which is great news for the Magic City.
