Is This The Most Instagrammable Restaurant In Chicago?
On our quest for the coolest and kitschiest bars in the world, we have to mention the spy-themed SafeHouse, which takes Instagrammable moments to the next level.
Of course, no secret spy bar would be complete without a hidden entrance. In this case, though it’s unmarked, it’s unmissable thanks to its cherry red hue. The correct password will get you in; otherwise, pass a [fun] clearance test with ‘Ms. Moneypenny’ (a nod to, natch, James Bond) to prove yourself a friendly ‘agent’ and earn entry.
Inside, discover social media-worthy moments that just demand a post, like a “Do Not Go Past This Point” sticker wall, a golden urinal, an escape hatch and a 60s-style domed booth dubbed the “Cone of Silence.”
The menu, as you might expect, is also spy-themed, with items that pay homage to classic films like Bond and his modern-day reincarnation, Ethan Hunt of Mission: Impossible.
Dessert names are a bit more widespread. There’s the nod to Jason Bourne with Bourne’s Blackout Cake, rich chocolate cake with chocolate chips baked inside finished with a rich chocolate cream cheese icing and chocolate chips; Mr. Big’s Brownie Cheese Cake; The Italian Job, vanilla cake filled with Italian mascarpone mousse with a hint of lemon, topped with a buttery streusel topping; and its best-seller, the Fat Bastard (a.k.a. F.B.): a brownie bites, chocolate cake, and ice cream topped with whipped cream, chocolate sauce, and a sparkler (defuse before eating).
Its newest spy addition celebrates the Friday release of Mission: Impossible Fallout with a gigantic, suspiciously teal drink dubbed (duh), the Mission Impossible. Apparently, it becomes your mission if you choose to order it.
Go rogue or get buzzed with a combination of Hanger 1 Vodka, Malibu Rum, sweet & sour and Green River soda, which serves two.
