There is only one co-working space in San Francisco—well now two—where thoughtful design is evident in every inch of the building. Canopy is the luxe communal office space on Fillmore Street from Yves Behar, Steve Mohebi, and Amir Mortazavi. It was unlike any other office space—until the duo opened a second location of its design-forward brand. The new Canopy, in Jackson Square, is even more stunning than the first spot. Behar has a unique eye for details and every pattern, color, and material has special meaning.

“The color tones throughout the space were inspired by two iconic buildings that we can see from the space,” Mortazavi explained to Haute Living from one of Canopy Jackson Square’s private conference rooms that overlooks Columbus Street. “The color inspiration came from the Sentinel building, that’s where like the green tones are from. Look at Francis Ford Coppola’s Cafe Zoetrope there—it’s the same marble that they have outside the café that we used throughout our whole space. The pink tones came from the façade of City Lights Bookstore. So being able to combine the two it respects their heritage of the neighborhood and allows us to be part of the ecosystem that exists.”

The 13,000 square-foot space is serene and welcoming. There is an open office plan with a variety of options for offices. A 14-person boardroom, three conference rooms, Wi-Fi, security system, 24-hour access, desktop accessory store, and cafe by Jane are some of the amenities included with a Canopy membership.  Everything is visible—the 25 private offices are enclosed by glass walls. Even sound-proof phone booths are essentially glass boxes that overlook Canopy’s beautiful outdoor patio space. All of the glass makes the rooms feel bigger and there is a wow-inducing mirror effect. Plants, vintage fixtures like Preben Dahl lights from the 60s and 70s, and custom copper shelving mingle with Eric Trine coffee tables, Raw Edges for Mutina tiles, and Rodolfi Rodroni for Kettal furniture.

One thing you notice when walking through Canopy is that the space is tranquil. “Our ultimate goal is to harness productivity and keep the place as distraction-free as possible. Most places wouldn’t put carpet on the floors, but we do so it’s quiet.” The resulting office is impeccably modern, elegant, and inviting.

Like the Fillmore Street location, Canopy Jackson Square will host an assortment of events, from cannabis tastings to flower arranging classes. Canopy is more than a shared workspace; it’s something of a work of art. “With Canopy Jackson Square, we sought to provide a harmonious balance between private areas for members to focus and get their best work done, and public spaces for them to socialize meaningfully,” Mortazavi says. “The result is a striking and stylish shared workspace that fosters thoughtful collaboration amongst a diverse blend of aspiring and accomplished professionals. Further, our deliberate focus on gender parity allows members to work side by side equally.”
