Editorial Cartoonist Jim Morin Creates 2018 Miami Film Festival Poster

It’s that time of year, again—The 35th Miami Film Festival takes place March 9-18, 2018. The Miami Dade College produced festival presents its 2018 official poster created by Miami Herald and Pulitzer Prize-winning editorial cartoonist Jim Morin.

Born in Washington, D.C. and raised outside Boston, Morin started drawing cartoons at age seven. He attended Syracuse University and, fueled by social and political upheavals in the early 1970s, he began publishing political cartoons in his college paper, The Daily Orange. Morin joined the Miami Herald in 1978, where he produced cartoons for 39 years until his retirement. His work is distributed internationally by MorinToons Syndicate.

Morin won the Pulitzer Prize for editorial cartooning in 2017 and 1996, and shared a Pulitzer Prize with other staff at The Miami Herald in 1983 and was a finalist for the prize in 1977 and 1990. He is also a recipient of the Herblock Prize (2007); John Fischetti Award (2000); Thomas Nast Society Award (1999) and National Press Foundation’s Berryman Award (1996), among others.

His work has been published in numerous collections, including Line of Fire, AmBUSHED, and Jim Morin’s World, a retrospective of his career. Other books include Jim Morin’s Field Guide to Birds and Famous Cats. Morin is also a passionate oil and watercolor artist, whose work has been exhibited in numerous galleries and museums throughout south Florida.
