Gurney’s Newport Resort & Marina Opens For Its Second Season After $18 Million Transformation
Gurney’s, the iconic East Coast hospitality property in Montauk, opened it’s doors last summer at it’s second location in Newport, Rhode Island as the town’s only four-season resort. Taking over the former home of the Hyatt Regency on Goat Island, the Gurney’s Newport Resort & Marina resort has undergone a complete $18-million transformation. While several of the rooms have already been renovated, the final renovations will be complete in time for summer 2018.
Along with 257 new guest rooms, the waterfront property offers a food and beverage program expertly crafted by premier Manhattan restaurant group LDV Hospitality. Among the new bars and restaurants are Italian hotspot Scarpetta; The Regent Cocktail Club, an indoor and outdoor lounge featuring an outdoor three-level deck with eleven fire pits; Corso, an Italian-style coffee bar; and The Pineapple Club, a pool side escape decked out with day beds, a restaurant, and bar. All design aspects of Gurney’s Newport come from the vision of Peter Max Bowden of PETERMAX.
“We hand-picked historic Newport because a stunning sense of place is evocative of our brand,” said Owner George Filopoulos. “We’ve worked hard to create a beacon for a new era of locals and out-of-town guests be it couples, families or single groups. It will boast many of the same Gurney’s features people have come to love at our Hamptons resort, like Scarpetta, but will also have many touches specific to Gurney’s Newport.”
Surrounded by water with frontage on both the Narragansett Bay and Newport Harbor and a few minutes’ walk to Downtown Newport, Gurney’s Newport has 257 rooms and suites, four restaurant outlets, indoor and outdoor pools, fitness center, spa, and spacious banquet space for groups and events.
