UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital hosted Kaleidoscope 5: Light, its fifth annual Kaleidoscope celebration bringing together 750 VIPs and influencers from the worlds of art, fashion, design, and entertainment for a special evening celebration to raise money for the UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital and UCLA Children’s Discovery and Innovation Institute, on Saturday, May 6th, 2017, at 3LABS in Culver City.  The event grossed an astounding $2.35 million. Notable attendees included honorees Alexandra and Sean Parker, honoree Gwyneth Paltrow, co-chairs Beth Friedman, Hillary Milken, Stephanie Booth Shafran and Natasha Croxall and Carl Schuster, Board Chair and CEO of Wolfgang Puck. Additional attendees included Geena Davis, mother of Extraordinary Children’s Award honoree Kaiis Davis Jarrahy, Chris Martin, Ali Larter, Jaime King, Molly Sims, Randy Jackson, Ron Howard, Lori Laughlin, Angie Everhart, Julius Randle, Monique Lhuillier, Ryan and Jessica Kavanaugh, Antonio Villaraigosa, Rob and Kristin Pelinka, Chef Tony Esnault, Chef Timothy Hollingsworth, Chef April Bloomfield, Chef Scot Jones, Chef Chad Robertson. This  year’s event was themed “Light:  A Celebration of Discovery and Innovation.” Philanthropists Alexandra and Sean Parker received the hospital’s highest honor, the Philanthropic Leadership Award, for their groundbreaking collaborative scientific research into cancer and the immune system and translating those discoveries into patient treatment. Additional honorees included Academy Award® winning actress Gwyneth Paltrow, who received the Kaleidoscope Award in recognition of her advocacy of healthful living. The hospital also presented its Extraordinary Children’s Award to 12-year-old Kaiis Davis Jarrahy, for his enthusiastic spirit and courage. The event was co-chaired by Los Angeles philanthropists Beth Friedman, Hillary Milken, Stephanie Booth Shafran and Natasha Croxall, all parents of children who have been treated at UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital. The memorable evening included a cocktail reception, dinner by Wolfgang Puck Catering, and an intimate surprise musical performance with Grammy Award-winning artist Chris Martin and Violinist Davide Grossi.

On May 4, P.S. ARTS hosted their second annual “the pARTy!” at Neuehouse Hollywood, an event that combines elements from their family-friendly “Express Yourself” with the vibrant energy of the art enthusiast cocktail party “LA Modernism.” The crowd included creative professionals and philanthropists for an evening of innovation, imagination, and play for adults—all to support public school arts education programs. Proceeds from “The pARTy” ensure that P.S. ARTS can continue providing high-quality arts education programs in California’s most underserved public schools. Guests at the fete included Joel McHale, Adam Scott, Shepard Fairey and Balthazar Getty.

On May 2, Christine Chiu hosted a sensory event with the S.E.X. soiree at Chateau Marmont. Burlesque legend Dita Von Teese performed at the intimate event, which also included chats with “Intercourses” author Martha Hopkins, celebrity sex therapist Dr. Holly Richmond and courses prepared by Chef Chris Ford.

On May 6, City Year Los Angeles’ 7th hosted its annual Spring Break: Destination Education in L.A. The event is City Year’s largest fundraising event as well as a fun party open to teens, tweens and adults in support of education in Los Angeles. The event attracted a star-studded crowd with more than 1,400 attendees all together, and raised over $1.8 million. There was a special performance by OneRepublic, as well as food, games and interactive booths. On Friday, May 5th, Multiple Sclerosis (MS) advocate and Center Without Walls founder, Nancy Davis, welcomed guests to the Beverly Hilton for the 24th Annual Race To Erase MS Gala. The event raised $1.6 million to benefit the Race to Erase MS and its Center Without Walls program, a collaboration of top MS research centers working together as a team on ground-breaking research with the goal of treating and, ultimately, finding a cure for MS. Guests at this year’s event included host Nancy Davis, honoree Jamie-Lynn Sigler, musical performers Chicago and Siedah Garrett, musical director David Foster, and special presenters for the evening Lance Bass, Kathy Griffin, Randy Jackson, and Quincy Jones.
