You can’t go wrong with brunch! It’s the most quintessential Mother’s Day happening and virtually every restaurant in town has some sort of special menu, complimentary cocktail, or just-for-mom dessert. For a truly unparalleled experience, take her to a place that isn’t normally open on Sundays, Leo’s Oyster Bar. The seafood restaurant is breaking its normal hours and opening its glamorous dining room from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on May 14. The menu consists of a variety of delicious and decadent dishes. What would we order? The caviar with sieved egg, shallots, chives, creme fraiche and house made chips; crab and lobster Benedict with poached eggs; and chicken-fried pork schnitzel with spring green caesar salad.

If you prefer to take mom to dinner, head to one of the city’s superb Italian eateries, 54 Mint. Located downtown in Mint Plaza, the restaurant is serving up a three-course prix-fix ($55) all day, from 12 noon to 8 p.m. The meal will be served family style and it starts with a sensational spread of appetizers. There will be housemade Roman flatbread with pancetta, fried artichokes, and potato cod croquettes. For the main course, diners can choose from ravioli or braised veal cheeks. Dessert is a crowd-pleasing classic: tiramisu with pistachios.

Why not bring mom to wine country? Specifically to the CIA at Copia’s Mother’s Day Rosé Tasting. From 12 to 3 p.m. rosé lovers can relax in the gardens while sipping an assortment of pink wines from California. Tickets are $25 and include seven flights of rosé. There is also another class mothers might enjoy: Bubbles for Every Occasion. From 4:30 to 5:45 p.m., sparkling wine fans can learn all about the difference between Champagne and its new world counterpart. The class involves a blind tasting, so you’ll get a chance to compare wines at different price points.

If chocolate is more up mom’s alley, bring her to a Recchiuti Confections tasting. The chocolate makers have partnered with Belle Glos Pinot Noir to create a special hour-long event with mom in mind. From 3 to 4 p.m., winery representative Ashley Kent will join chocolatier Michael Recchiuti to walk guests through a sit down tasting of chocolate and Pinot pairings. Each Pinot will pair perfectly with a unique handcrafted chocolate truffle. Wine and chocolate will be available for purchase at the end of the event, so you can bring your favorite tastes home and enjoy with mom at a later date.

Not all moms are into food and drink, right? However, who could say no to an afternoon of shopping?
