Clio Awards Celebrate Mario Testino, Baz Luhrmann, and top creatives
Last week, the 57th annual Clio Awards, honoring the best in international advertising, design, and communications, took place in New York City. Not surprisingly, a glittery roster of creatives turned out, among them Megan Mullally and Nick Offerman (who served as co-hosts), Mario Testino, Graydon Carter, Baz Luhrmann, Andra Day, Gavin Rossdale, Amber Valletta, Kerry Kennedy, Nile Rodgers, Montell Jordan, and Lauren Santo Domingo. The gathering, which was held at the American Museum of Natural History, featured tributes to the Clio Lifetime Achievement Award Winner Linda Kaplan Thaler and Clio Fashion & Beauty Lifetime Achievement Award Winner Mario Testino. Hugh Evans, and Baz Luhrmann were also among the night’s top honorees.
“Clio continually strives to source and celebrate the best in creativity,” said Clio President Nicole Purcell. “This season saw the launch of our new content platform, clios.com, with our Global Launch Partner Getty Images, the inclusion of another key brand under our umbrella, Ads of the World, and truly inspiring award winners. Our programs also evolved this year, with Fashion & Beauty joining Music during the main show. We were so proud to celebrate the long careers of Linda and Mario, and are excited for what the next year will bring for the Clio brand.”
Linda Kaplan Thaler, former chairman of Publicis Kaplan Thaler, now Publicis New York, received her award from former business partner Robin Koval, CEO of Truth Initiative. Graydon Carter, editor, Vanity Fair, was on hand to present Mario Testino, the renowned photographer, with his honor. An Honorary Clio Award was presented to Baz Luhrmann, director. Hugh Evans, CEO Global Citizen, received an Honorary Clio Music Award from Chris Anderson, curator, TED.
The Clio Music portion of the evening was included performances by Andra Day and Montell Jordan, both of whom appeared on the 2016 Billboard and Clio Music Charts.
