MIA: The Standard Celebrates 10 Years with Solange Knowles
The Standard, Miami Beach’s favorite haute hippie hangout, celebrated 10 years on Belle Isle with “Camp Standard” — an entire weekend of programed activities. True to the hotel’s sense of fun events included a campfire acoustic performance by Solange Knowles (pictured above), a late night hamam party, group mud baths, “Not Your Standard Bingo” a dive-in movie and, yes, tribal body art for those ready to show off their bodies.
The weekend kicked off on Friday, January 22nd with a late night card readings complete with real, live tarot card readers. Saturday set the stage for the late night hamam party, with full spa services like scrubs and baths, a DJ and Champagne bar right in the spa.
Nicole Winhoffer, aka Madonna’s personal trainer, led a workout class, CFDA Finalist Baja East taught a tie-dying workshop that no doubt got the hipsters excited. The art of building a human pyramid was taught by apres-surf designer Thaddeus O’Neill and one of the world’s hottest milliner’s, Gigi Burris, taught a group in how to make hat pins, just in case tie-dying and fitness classes were a bit too mainstream!
Sunday was the setting for a Lazy Sunday BBQ, that included a fun photo booth, henna and hair braiding and paddle boarding for those not deterred by the low temperatures.
The events served to remind people of the The Standard Spa’s uniqueness. It is, after all, a very unique holistic hydrotherapy spa hotel inspired by global bathing culture, community and healing. How many hotels can say that? The hotel has managed to be an oasis of hipness and relaxation, no easy feat in a city that equates fun with thumping house music. Instead, The Standard relies on health, lush landscapes and cool characters to keep people coming back for a decade.
