Haute Living Magazine, partnering with Hublot, the preferred watch brand of Golden State Warriors owner Joe Lacob, and Zacapa Rum, celebrated the charitable champion and his November/December 2015 cover of Haute Living San Francisco’s inaugural philanthropy issue with a VIP dinner attended by his fianceé Nicole Curran, who runs the Warriors Community Foundation, Warriors’ minority owners and executives, Willie Brown and Haute Living Style Editor-at-Large Sonya Molodetskaya, players in the tech industry—and the Warriors’ NBA trophy—at EPIC Steak in San Francisco on Nov. 16.
Lacob wore his lucky timepiece—the Hublot skeleton tourbillon he wore to every game last season, which culminated with the franchise winning its first NBA crown in 40 years. EPIC was the same venue the Warriors chose to announce their new ownership group nearly five years ago to the day. At the time, Lacob vowed to turn the Warriors into winners. He came through not just on the court but off as well with the Warriors Community Foundation, which the team says ranks among the NBA’s top in corporate philanthropy.
During the reception, Zacapa Rum cocktails were served and attendees enjoyed seeing the NBA trophy up close and trying on various Hublot watches, including the haute $414,000 MP-05 LaFerrari Gold, one of only 20 in the world. The expensive timepieces weren’t the only things being tried on. Lacob, Curran, and Craig Johnson, a member of the Warriors’ executive board, sported their championship rings, which guests got a kick out of checking out as well. Brown tried on Lacob’s championship ring and, when he returned it, pretended to exchange wedding vows with the Warriors owner, saying “with this ring, I thee,” as he slipped the bauble back onto Lacob’s finger.
At dinner, Haute Living publisher Seth Semilof and gave a speech about how honored he was to have Lacob on the magazine cover. Haute Living San Francisco Editor Kelly E. Carter also spoke and raised a glass to applaud Jacob for turning the Warriors, who are off to an 11-0 start this season, into champions not just on the court but off the court with its philanthropic efforts.
In addition to the aforementioned names, guests also included Larry and Rachel Bowman, Mary and Mark Stevens, Jeff and Karen Miller, Tom Jermoluk and Ivana Berendika, John Burbank, Marty Glick, Raymond Ridder, Zane Edwards and Michelle Miller Edwards, Gus Murad and Bahya Oumlil-Murad, Haute Living ambassador Olivia Hsu Decker, Robb McDaniels and Anna Weinberg.
The elegant event took place in The Enclosed Piazza, EPIC’s private room next to The Bay and with views of the twinkling white lights on the Bay Bridge. Guests feasted on grilled sea scallops, butter lettuce salad, northern halibut, grilled filet of beef, raspberry orange swirl cheesecake and old-fashioned apple pie as a fire crackled in the dimly-lit room to add to the warm ambiance.
