Mythology and Marc Anthony Set for 2015’s InterContinental Miami Make-A-Wish Ball

Marc Anthony

The InterContinental® Miami Make-A-Wish Ball has one of our favorite themes and performers yet this year. Organizers and hosts Robert Hill, Norman Wedderburn and Shareef Malnik have announced an intriguing Mythology theme as well as a performance by six-time GRAMMY winner Marc Anthony. The event is always the kick off to Miami’s busy social season and functions as Make-A-Wish South Florida’s primary fundraising arm, raising a record $2.5 million in 2014 that granted 500 wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses.

The ball really is the event with the highest production value, living up to it’s theme from start to finish. The evening always begins with a cocktail reception replete with bubbly, and food stations, that this year will feature a Mediterranean vibe to work with “Mythology.” During this time Miami’s who’s who gets to meet and greet as well as check out silent auction items, while placing their bids using 21st century technology. The call to the main ballroom is always original, as is the decor of the passage to it (one year ball attendees walked underneath a 20′ skirt). Once the event is underway, dinner is served and the fundraising begins with help of actress / emcee Gabrelle Anwar, new bride of ball chair Shareef Malnik. Through her efforts, the ball has been able to raise more each year.

Following the wish-granting, the main act comes on, guests take to the dance floor to boogie, while a younger crowed begins to assemble around 11p.m. in the InterContinental Miami Make a Wish Ball Starlight Nightclub. The after hours part lasts until 3 a.m. and attracts the next generation of Make-A-Wish donors, although they are still required to wear formal evening wear. This year DJ and producer Chuckie will headline the club, and Neiman Marcus Bal Harbour will stage a runway show with fashion latest trends.

Who else might you see? Every year there are plenty of boldface names which have included Christian Slater, Don King, Diana Ross, Kim Kardashian, Marcus Schenkenberg, Mike Piazza, Pamela Anderson, Paula Abdul, Richie Rich, Russell and Kimora Lee Simmons, Scottie and Larsa Pippen, Sharon Stone, Venus and Serena Williams, and Wayne Newton. Headlining entertainers have included Adam Lambert, Diana Ross, DJ Cassidy, DJ Irie, Joan Jett, Macy Gray, Melanie Amaro, Natalie Cole and Wyclef Jean. For a look at last year’s event click here.
