Standing Tall: The Trump SoHo New York

“Duplex penthouse guests also receive a beautiful in-suite floral arrangement upon arrival and access to an upgraded house car, such as a Bentley or Maybach,” explained Gary Schweikert, Managing Director of Trump SoHo New York. In an interview, we discussed the inspiration behind the hotel, the space and style of their penthouse suites, dining options and much more.

Tell me a little bit about the origins of the property given that it was a new-build. How would you describe the design, decor and atmosphere of the hotel?

The first Trump branded hotel property in downtown Manhattan, Trump SoHo New York has introduced a new perspective on luxury hospitality to SoHo as the neighborhood’s only AAA Five Diamond rated hotel since opening in 2010. Inspired by the cobblestone streets and architecture of the historic SoHo neighborhood, the design balances materials and finishes that are both rich and raw, such as the wood finishes next to supple leathers.  Additionally, Trump SoHo is the only hotel in New York to feature custom furnishings by Fendi Casa, the chic home décor line by the eponymous fashion label known for its exclusive clothing and handbags. The 391 residential-style guest rooms – 145 which are suites – blend classically-inspired interiors with contemporary New York design, each featuring floor-to-ceiling windows and unrivaled views.

Part of what makes this hotel so special are the truly unique and luxurious penthouse suites. What makes these particular suites some of the most incredible accommodations in the city?

Our penthouse suites stand out amongst the most incredible accommodations in the city primarily because of their unparalleled views, which offer a unique vantage point that is unmatched by any other hotel.  Each penthouse offers stunning views through floor-to-ceiling windows, showcasing the Hudson River, Midtown and the Empire State Building, Lower Manhattan and the East River bridges, or downtown and One World Trade Center.  The view alone is worth twice the price of these incredible penthouses.

Several of the penthouses are equipped with dining tables that are perfect for intimate dinner parties in addition to a wine cooler that we customize with guests’ favorite vintages. For guests of the larger penthouse suites, we offer additional complimentary amenities to enhance their stays, including daily breakfast via in-room-dining, wireless internet, spa treatments, private airport transfers, and more.  Duplex penthouse guests also receive a beautiful in-suite floral arrangement upon arrival and access to an upgraded house car, such as a Bentley or Maybach.

In terms of on-site amenities, what kinds of services are available on the property when it comes to rest and relaxation, and what are some of your signature packages?

Our 11,000 square-foot Spa features nine private treatment rooms and wet rooms, a state-of-the-art fitness center with Technogym equipment, indoor and outdoor relaxation areas, and an extensive menu of treatments and services.  Inspired by Ivanka Trump’s travels in Istanbul, The Spa at Trump features the first authentic luxury hammam in New York City, affording spa-goers a rare opportunity to experience the traditional cultural bathing rituals of Turkey and the Middle East.

Located adjacent to the spa, Bar d’Eau is a seasonal indoor and outdoor urban retreat that opens out onto a 6,000-square-foot pool deck. Offering light fare and creative summer cocktails, Bar d’Eau is an ideal destination for sharing drinks while gazing down at the neighbourhood, including an azure Italian mosaic-lined pool and full-size Bocce court.

We offer packages customized to various types of travelers, including Retail Therapy, a wine tasting with Trump Wines, Executive Experience for the business traveler, and several offerings for families.

From check-in until check-out, Trump SoHo’s five-star treatment is complemented by the services of the Trump Attaché, providing each in-house guest with uncompromising, yet discreet, 24-hour service, no matter how particular.  More than a concierge or butler, Trump Attaché delivers anticipatory attention, from personal shopping and preparation of personalized business cards to pre-arrival grocery stocking.

With regard to in-room dining, what is the philosophy and approach behind the extensive cuisine menu?

With our expansive in-room dining program, our Executive Chef Brian Lee fully leverages the fresh ingredients that we receive daily from our local purveyors. We work to ensure that our cuisine inspires and delights our discerning guests, and is a direct reflection of Trump SoHo’s unique standing as the area’s only full-service luxury hotel.

Global travelers feel right at home with the in-room dining menu’s unparalleled International Breakfast Meals, featuring authentic Chinese, European, Greek, Japanese, Mexican, and Scandinavian dishes.  Also featured are Asian Delights, sandwiches inspired by Manhattan’s neighborhoods, and dedicated Little Italy all-day dining sections.

For health-minded guests, Trump Wellness includes Nourish, providing guests with an in-room dining menu of vegan, gluten-free and organic selections with complete nutritional values available, as well as Quick Bites, an express in-room menu that includes health-wise and delicious options that are designed to accommodate busy on-the-go lifestyles with delivery guaranteed in 15 minutes or less.  All menu items have been developed by the hotel’s culinary team and made from certified organic ingredients that are sourced locally and delivered fresh daily.

As a first-time visitor to the hotel, what would be the perfect itinerary to experience the Trump SoHo?

For an ideal stay, I would suggest taking one full day to indulge in the hotel’s amenities. I would relax with a treatment at The Spa at Trump – perhaps a traditional Turkish Hammam or innovative Natura Bisse facial – followed by a dip in the pool if the season permits. After beginning the day with one of our distinctive International Breakfasts in the morning, I would dine at Koi for lunch or dinner. Then, take a day to explore the surrounding neighborhoods, taking advantage of our Shopping Card – which offers exclusive discounts at top boutiques and retailers, visiting local art galleries, biking along the Hudson, and visiting the new One World Trade Center. The evening is the perfect time to explore the amazing dining and nightlife just outside our door in SoHo, the West Village, and TriBeCa.  Trump SoHo is just a short ride away from Broadway shows and the city’s storied museums, making it easy for travelers to see multiple neighborhoods from one home base.
